Recorded in Manhattan, the video isolates steam released from New York City’s district steam system—the largest in the world, in operation since 1882. With the urban background removed, the vapor is projected directly into the exhibition space, shifting in visibility as it blends with changing light conditions.
By reframing this byproduct of a vast urban infrastructure, Seiz draws attention to the systems that silently sustain city life, while pointing to the ecological tensions between industrial efficiency and environmental fragility.
