This series focuses on landscapes shaped by geothermal activity and human intervention. In Iceland, a plume of steam rises in isolation from a geothermal power station, cutting sharply into the sky. In Owakudani, Japan, a network of pipes, scaffolding, and monitoring stations spreads across a volcanic valley.
Placed together, the images highlight two different sites where societies draw on the earth’s heat—whether for energy production or geological observation. Seiz captures these encounters between natural forces and human systems, showing how the use of resources leaves both visible and invisible marks on the landscape.
